All the places in this wonderful country to which I've been.

What's my favorite country? Why, this one, of course. The good old US of A. But it's not my favorite in a jingoistic sense. I've been to a number of other countries, and they were awesome to visit.

But only this one is home.

Cross-Country Trips

All the major trips I've ever taken within the United States of America.

While it's fun to organize one's travels by state, that doesn't provide a place for major trips that cross one or more state lines. That's what this section is for.

Alaska

All about the trip I made to the 49th State!

When Alaska became our 49th State, I was 8 years old and it was a big, big deal in our Vermont classroom. Alaska seemed almost impossibly far away; it certainly was as far (then) from Vermont as it was possible to be and still be "in" the United States. I started dreaming, then, of the day that I would be able to visit Alaska in person.

Photos of my travels through Arizona.

I have wanted to live in Arizona since my first visit here, in 1961. But it wasn't until 1997 that I was able to make that move. Behind my (then) new Toyota 4-Runner, my then-partner and I towed the largest U-Haul we could get. Mom was visiting me in Manchester, New Hampshire—it was still summer—so I brought her, too. We drove through New York State, Memphis, Texas, and eventually arrived at the place we had chosen, Snowflake, AZ.

All about the visits I've made to California.

When I was 5 years old, the first state other than New Jersey I ever heard of, was California. That's because Disneyland, featured every afternoon on the Mickey Mouse Show, was in California. I had no idea where California was; but I wanted to go to Disneyland.

All about the visits I've made to Colorado.

Colorado first came to my attention by way of John Denver, whose song "Rocky Mountain High" became popluar while I worked as a radio disk jockey. And even now that I've been in Colorado many times, I still feel a kinship with John Denver and Dan Folgelberg, who also maintained a residence in the state.

Photos and stories of Florida, the state in which I spent my teenage years.

I was raised in Florida: We moved there when I was 10, in 1961; I lived there until I was in my late twenties, moved back there twice, and still have family there.

All about my trips to our island paradise.

When I was a kid in 1959, my school made a big deal over the addition of Hawaii to the list of United States. That, plus an old tune on my Victrola called "Hello, Aloha, How Are You?" started me wanting to go to Hawaii in the worst way. It was four decades later that I finally got to make that trip, followed quickly by three more.

Maine

All about my trips to Maine, our northeasternmost state.

Although Maine is a close neighbor of Vermont's, where I lived for several years as a small boy, I never actually visited there until I was an adult. That's when I discovered its beauty (especially in autumn), whitewater rafting, and buzzing flies that are large enough to be saddled.

All the times I bothered to take photos in the Bay State.

Despite its age and history, in my opinion Massachusetts has little to offer the landscape photographer. Little, but not nothing; in this section you'll find the few photos I have bothered to take there.

New York

All about trips I've made to the great State of New York.

As a child growing up in New Jersey, I accompanied my family on several trips to New York (for example, we visited the Bronz Zoo a couple of times) but I didn't know it was New York. By the time I was old enough to really understand the concept of states and countries, we had moved to Florida and were too far away for a casual visit.

All about my visits to the Tarheel State.

The Tarheel State (and what the heck is a "tarheel", anyway?) is smack dab in the middle of the country's eastern coast, and I-95 runs right through it. So I've been there many times, in many trips taken up and down the coast. And yet I haven't really been inspired to take a lot of photos there. My pal Chris and I drove through it in 1969 on our way from Fort Lauderdale to Vermont. But so far I've made only one vacation there, and that was with my family in 1984.

All about my visits to the old dominion state.

I spent a number of years living in Northern Virginia, at a time when my kids were growing up and I was able to take them on many trips to the mountains for hiking and camping. Two of my kids still live there. Here are some of the highlights of trips I've made there.
