Key West from the Air

Keith and I went to the Florida Keys last April, as a birthday gift. I love the Keys and have been there many times, though this was Keith's first visit. Keith loved the Keys as well, but truly I imagined I'd never be back. However, when my daughter, Karen, suddenly pushed her wedding date to the end of January, and changed the location from the Northeast to Key West…well, we were on our way!

How Keith and I flew from Phoenix to Key West for my daughter Karen's wedding.

This was the day that Keith and I flew 2,508 miles to attend my daughter Karen's wedding. It was also the first time Keith and I had flown together. (Though we only flew the first segment actually in adjacent seats.)

How we welcomed ourselves to the US' southernmost island with a hearty meal.

I woke early, as I seem to do these days. I'm usually up 2 or 3 hours ahead of Keith, who sleeps like I did at his age. First thing, of course, I stepped out onto our balcony for the air, the view, and to await Keith's arising so we could go somewhere for breakfast.

One of the few times I've been to a beach without going into the water.

My daughter, Karen, and her fiancé, Rob, had arrived the day before but requested they be given a little time to themselves, since they wouldn't be going on a honeymoon after the wedding due to work pressures. So it seemed like a good day to go to the beach, some one of the three public beaches on the little island. But which one?

Karen and Rob sign…The Papers.

Monday, the first business day after their arrival, dawned bright and Karen called to say she and Rob would be getting their marriage license at 11 AM, if we wanted to be there for that. Which, of course, we did.

How we picked Michael up at the Key West International Airport.

By this time jet lag was weighing heavily on us, since we'd been pretty busy in a non-stop way since our arrival. So we determined not to overdo it today, in an attempt to be rested for the wedding.

We go beach hopping.

First thing in the morning, John called to let us know that he and the babies were going to the playground at Higgs Beach while their mother and her sister, the bride-to-be, got their hair and nails done. So, of course Michael, Keith and I gobbled down our breakfast, ran through showers, and set out in the golf cart.

The reason for this trip to Key West: My daughter Karen's wedding.

The whole purpose of this trip, remember, was to attend the wedding of my daughter, Karen. So, as much fun as we'd been having, it was all preliminary to The Main Event.

A Million Little Pieces Of My Mind

It hardly seemed possible: After a week in Key West (the longest consecutive time I'd spent here), it was time to go home.
